Rewrite of CMC-description
-
This is the original particl description on CoinMarketCap as of March 2020:
Launched in July 2017, Particl
(PART) aims to offer its decentralized multifunctional technology to create DApps, execute public or anonymous smart contracts, share encrypted messages or leverage the secure B2B B2G and B2C marketing platform to enable anyone to buy/sell products/services. Particl
claims to be completely private and highly encrypted, which means that no transaction can be traced back to a user and user identity. It is possible to generate passive income by storing interest staking 4% of PART. In its PoS3 protocol, several functions have been added: cold staking, SDK, Quantum resistance, Sidechain crossover functions, community voting. The team plans to add more features in the future.
We should envision to rewrite the description to reflect in a better way the current project development status.
The document where to elaborate the description on can be found here:

I think the fully decentralised market place is the outstanding feature of Particl. While all the other features are nice, they play a supporting role to the marketplace. The CoinMarketCap description would, I believe, be most effective if it really highlights this feature rather than emphasising Particl as a DApp platform which we have many of already. I’d welcome your edits and suggestions to improve the text:
*Launched in July 2017, Particl
(PART) is decentralised marketplace for goods and services. The market place runs as a peer-2-peer networked application rather than a website but has a familiar graphical interface for those using traditional eCommerce market platforms. Listings may be published globally or to private groups. There are no third parties between you and your buyer/seller, and payment can be made in any currency, though is settled in the native currency PART. PART is needed to economically secure both the blockchain and the settlement of every marketplace purchase via an automated escrow system in which parties may be penalised if they fail to uphold their agreements.
Particl is an independent blockchain based on the Bitcoin Core source code with multiple additions to support the censorship resistant marketplace. These include Confidential Transactions with Bullet Proofs from the Blockstream Elements project (to hide tx amounts), Ring Signatures from CryptoNote/Monero (to hide party addresses) and SMSG, a DHT embedded in the node stack for carrying rich data such as listings images and chat messages, without bloating the ledger.*

This approach shows the “what” instead of the technical how while having a distinct separation of the layers. It addresses the tech-savvy target audience and gives an overview of the project and the utility of the coin which is the main point of interest on CMC. The economical aspects are the primary focus. The technical aspects are taken into account at the end of the note.
Particl Coin (PART) is an independent digital currency that offers superior data protection and privacy technology. It acts as the settlement-layer for each transaction made on any Particl application, including Particl Marketplace, and secures the needed privacy features. Payments, in fiat or digital currency, are converted into PART to empower users with true privacy and freedom.
Particl Marketplace is a multi-vendor marketplace like Amazon but with no-middleman, no-commissions, near-zero fees, and no login-data requirement. It preserves your privacy, making you earn more money while being able to have products at more reasonable prices, and it protects its vendor’s supply-chains and interests. Particl Marketplace protects users from scam attacks, and enforces parties to comply with their agreements with its built-in automated dual-escrow system and enables anybody to operate an independent and private restrictable storefront on their own.
Particl launched in July 2017 and is a privacy-first and worldwide censorship-resistant eCommerce platform. They delivered the Particl Marketplace application and the digital privacy currency PART. These privacy features include Confidential Transactions with Bullet Proofs from the Blockstream Elements project (to hide tx amounts), Ring Signatures from CryptoNote/Monero (to hide party addresses) and SMSG, a DHT embedded in the node stack for carrying rich data such as listings images and chat messages, without bloating the ledger. The Particl blockchain, which is always updated to the latest Bitcoin Core code, makes usage of the PoS3 protocol, is Cold Staking enabled and supports hardware wallets.

Here I tried to combine both proposals (dros’ structuring with opaceys’ writings):
Launched in July 2017, Particl
(PART) is a decentralised, privacy-first eCommerce platform for goods and services.
Particl Marketplace runs as a peer-2-peer networked application rather than a website but has a familiar graphical interface for those using traditional eCommerce market platforms. Listings may be published globally or to private groups. There are no third parties between you and your buyer/seller, and payment can be made in any currency, though is settled in the native currency PART.
Particl Coin (PART) is needed for its privacy features and to economically secure both the blockchain and the settlement of every marketplace purchase via an automated escrow system, in which parties may be penalised if they fail to uphold their agreements. PART is using the PoS3 protocol on its independent blockchain, and is based on the latest Bitcoin Core source code with multiple additions to support the censorship resistant marketplace. This is a little inaccurate. PART is needed to provide the privacy features -not the escrow. The escrow is a part of the marketplace, not a part of the currency.
Though I must admit this is a technical perspective. Economically it is needed and correct.

What about this?“Particl Coin (PART) is needed for its privacy features and to economically secure both the blockchain and the settlement of every marketplace purchase via an automated escrow system, in which parties may be penalised if they fail to uphold their agreements.”

@Pancake I overhauled my initial text. It addresses the coin in the first place and shows its economical implications. Then it shows the benefits of the marketplace and makes a summary of the project and technology at the end. So all the buzz-words are separated from the important stuff.

Looking good guys!
Though, do you reaaaaaaly want to put that “Not an ICO” thing in? I guess you recall the Telegram chat we had about it. My concern is that even if its true it isn’t a very compelling message but in the eyes of some (like me) it is incorrect and therefore false advertising on the largest billboard in the sector - which isn’t a great look.

Hey @opacey,
I see your point and I took the “Not an ICO …” part off the proposed text.
I’d like to use your both proposed CMC-descriptions (yours and @dros) as a first test of particl community voting procedures. Therefore, I will set up a document where both your proposed descriptions are brought up and given as voting options. It might still take a few days but I hope it’s for both of you ok.Goal is, that at a later point every community member can set up proposals for community voting in a defined manner, and that most of the community will have a chance to become notified and informed in time.

Great
So is that three options in the vote? Mine, Dros 's and your blended one?1 Reply

@opacey
We can put as many options to vote on as we like.
But finally we might run into a problem as still to be discussed in here
My blended one is pretty close to your initial proposal. I would remove the ICO part and then put yours (the blended one), dros’ and the “old” description up to vote. The proposal document could look like this:
(Sorry, I’m somehow not allowed to upload pdf’s)Here is also an editable link to the corresponding DropBox-Paper: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/rrsjut64zoiy68uk1szbu/Voting-on-CMC-description.paper?dl=0&rlkey=i220752ugv5r2jas30k43x32q
I still included the ICO part on dros’ paper.
Also @dros, feel free to still edit the paper as you like. Please just let me know whether the text and the title is ok for you both and I will try to set up things for community voting.
Thanks a lot for your input.
Let’s become this community more active.2 Replies
